Happy Thanksgiving

Domestic Turkey

While enjoying this special occasion do spare a thought for the beautiful and intelligent turkeys. In fact did you know that Benjamin Franklin wanted to make the wild turkey the national bird of the United States instead of the bald eagle?

Domestic turkeys such as the ones in this picture are raised for eating and can weigh up to twice the amount of a wild turkey. Wild turkeys have full colour vision and great hearing. They can run up to 20 miles per hour and fly up to 55 miles per hour. Unfortunately most domestic turkeys are too heavy to fly, but they love having their feathers stroked. A special bird indeed!

Happy Halloween

Black Halloween cat on pumpkin _ Anita Peeples

Throughout the ages black cats have been associated with the occult. Several myths and legends exist about black cats being evil or bad luck. They are supposed to have a connection with witches, and many other dark things. However in many cultures cats are also seen as a sign of good luck. So look after cats, especially the black ones during Halloween.

New breed images added of Geoffroy's cats

Geoffroy's cat by Tetsu Yamazaki

Geoffroy's Cat (Leopardus geoffroyi) is a wild cat which originates from the southern and central regions of South America. The Geoffroy's Cat has been bred with the domestic cat, resulting in the rare hybrid Safari Cat.

This fast breed is about the size of a domestic cat. Some people keep Geoffroy's cats indoors, however these are not normal domestic cats and are a serious commitment. They will need training and regular handling.

New breed images added of Tamaskan dogs

Three Tamaskan Dogs photo by Eva Maria Kramer

This breed was co-developed in Britain, it is made of Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute and German Shepherd plus some unknown Nordic breeds and is bred internationally.

The aim is to have a dog that looks like a wolf dog but does not have wolf crosses and thus easier to keep. Not suspicious but a reliable friendly dog.

Nick Ridley signs with Animal Photography

Nick Ridley, Animal Photography

Today we signed the fabulous Nick Ridley to Animal Photography, this is fantastic news, as just last month we signed Paul Walker.

Nick has been involved in photography for over 30 years and this experience coupled with a lifetime of being around working dogs gives him an undeniable edge when photographing our canine companions. He was an inspector with a well known animal charity and always puts the care and welfare of the animal before the taking of a photograph.

He is a full time professional dog photographer and is available for both commercial and private commissions. In 1998 he started what has become one of the highest profile and well respected dog event photography businesses in the country. His photographs are used throughout the world and he has a number of international clients within his portfolio.

Nick has written two books on photographing pets and dogs and in 2008 he published his "first coffee table book" Labradors... At Work, Rest and Play. In 2009 the second book in the series Spaniels was published and both books have gone on to be international sellers. Nick has made numerous television and radio appearances.

You can visit Nick's website here www.nickridley.com We'll post more of his fabulous photos, as they go live.
